Elvis Now
Released: Feb. 20, 1972
The mood of the 1971 Nashville sessions had been broken by the two-month hiatus caused by Elvis’ illness in March. The album that was eventually put together retained some elements of the folk-rock concept but for the most part fell into a more generically nostalgic mood. With the inclusion of two previously unreleased 1970 tracks and “Hey Jude” from the 1969 American sessions in Memphis, the album lacked any real sense of cohesion, though it was by no means lacking in sincerity. Sales of 400,000 indicated that Elvis LP fans might now outnumber singles buyers.
