(You’re The) Devil In Disguise

(You’re The) Devil In Disguise

Released: Jun. 18, 1963

Both sides of the new single came from a two-night singles-and-album session in Nashville the previous month. The recordings were similar to, but even more diverse than, the Pot Luck session, drawing upon blues, ballads, rhythm and blues, and contributions from a number of Elvis’ favorite current writers (Don Robertson, Pomus-Shuman, Blackwell-Scott). Elvis picked the single, which went to Number Three on the charts and enjoyed substantial international sales, going a long way toward redeeming the unanticipated failure of “One Broken Heart For Sale.”
