Despite the promise of the just-recorded Nashville album (there were twelve tracks left after the single release), RCA decided to put out a third volume in its Golden Records series. With sales of 600,000, it was the most successful one yet and even had an underlying logic of its own: all twelve sides had been recorded in Nashville, with, basically, the same “A-team” of session musicians.
