The Complete Elvis Presley Masters Photo of the Week – September 8
News · Sep. 8, 2010

From page 141 of the book included in The Complete Elvis Presley Masters. One immediate consequence of the successful Elvis NBC-TV special was offers for Elvis to return to live work. Elvis hadn’t performed on stage (with two early ‘60s exceptions) since 1957 because of his army stint and subsequently movie commitments. By 1968 he told reporters that he had missed "the closeness of a live audience." The newly opened International Hotel in Las Vegas was chosen, and Elvis signed on for a four week, two shows per night, engagement. Audiences and critics alike raved about the totally sold-out shows. The historic moment was captured by RCA and released on an album called IN PERSON which was released a few months later as part of the legendary FROM MEMPHIS TO VEGAS – FROM VEGAS TO MEMPHIS double-album.
